1 John 1:5 - GOD is light and in HIM there is no darkness at all.

GOD is infinitely holy.  This is a standard that we can never attain.  This standard is beyond our reality.  

Romans 3:10 - There is none righteous, not even one.  

We are sinners by nature and sinners by choice.  We are unable to save ourselves even with the best we have. The best we have does not come near to the GOD's standard.

Romans 5:8 - GOD demonstrates HIS own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, CHRIST died for us.

GOD's love and mercy were demonstrated on the cross at Calvary.  CHRIST's death on the cross justified us and redeemed us.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD.

Our access to this love a gift of GOD, experienced only by faith and only because of grace.

Matthew 22:37-39 JESUS said to him, "you shall love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

What the HOLY GOD requires of HIS disciples (followers) are contained in these two statements.  The relationship with GOD and the relationship with man is based on genuine love.

Matthew 28:18-20 And JESUS came and spoke to them [disciples], saying, "all authority has been given to ME in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the FATHER, and of the SON, and of the HOLY SPIRIT, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
